Mom wants dog in son’s Westbury classroom

Fifteen-year-old John Cave Jr. recently spent a night at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, where his service dog Simba was allowed to sleep on his bed.

Nancy Cave wants to know why Simba can spend the night in the hospital but can’t join her son, who is deaf, during the day at school.

‘My son’s civil rights are being trampled,’ Cave said last night after a meeting of the East Meadow School Board at the Salisbury Center in Westbury.

Speaking before the board and Superintendent Leon Campo, she demanded to know how the district will accommodate John and his dog at W. Tresper Clarke High School. Read more
